Great American Downtown is bringing a series of free outdoors screenings of Bollywood films to the downtown nashua community! We are hosting a total of 6 screenings in summer 2017.

Son of Sardaar, also known by the abbreviation SOS, is a 2012 Bollywood action comedy film directed by Ashwni Dhir. The film features Ajay Devgan, Juhi Chawla, Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles and released on 13 November 2012. Salman Khan appears in a cameo role. It is a remake of the Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna, which itself was loosely based on Hollywood movie Our Hospitality released in 1923 and was first adapted in a Kannada film Balagalittu Olage Baa released in 2002 directed by Dinesh Baboo starring S. Narayan. Although competing with the Yash Raj film Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Son of Sardaar managed to do good business at the box office worldwide. Box Office Indiadeclared it a Hit in India and an average grosser in the overseas markets. It went on to gross ₹1.5 billion (US$23 million) worldwide. Source
Stanley Ka Dabba, translated to English as Stanley’s Tin Box, is a 2011 Hindi film written, directed and produced by Amole Gupte, starring Divya Dutta, Partho Gupte (son of Amole Gupte), Divya Jagdale, Raj Zutshi, and Amole Gupte. The film was released on 13 May 2011. Stanley Ka Dabba attracted positive reviews from critics across India. Raja Sen of rediff.com gave it a rating of 5 stars out of 5 stating that it was the “Best, purest film to come out of Hindi cinema in a while”. Film critic Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave it a rating of 4/5 calling it “heartwarming”. Anupama Chopra of NDTV said – “I recommend that you make time for the film. It has an inherent sweetness and honesty that will stay with you long after the film is over”. source.
kahaani is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language mystery thriller film co-written, co-produced and directed by Sujoy Ghosh. It stars Vidya Balan as Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant woman searching for her missing husband in Kolkata during the festival of Durga Puja, assisted by Satyoki “Rana” Sinha (Parambrata Chatterjee) and Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Made on a shoestring budget of ₹80 million (US$1.2 million), Kahaani was conceived and developed by Ghosh, who co-wrote the film with Advaita Kala. The crew often employed guerrilla-filmmaking techniques on Kolkata‘s city streets to avoid attracting attention. The film was noted for its deft portrayal of the city and for making use of many local crew and cast members. Kahaani explores themes of feminism and motherhood in male-dominated Indian society. The film also makes several allusions to Satyajit Ray‘s films such as Charulata (1964) and Aranyer Dinratri (1970). Kahaani was released worldwide on 9 March 2012. Critics praised the screenplay, the cinematography and the performances of the lead actors. Following critical acclaim and word-of-mouth publicity, the film earned ₹1.04 billion (US$16 million) worldwide in 50 days. The film won several awards, including three National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards. The latter included trophies for Best Director (Ghosh) and Best Actress (Vidya). Tanu Weds Manu is a 2011 Indian romantic drama film directed by Anand L. Rai, and produced by Shailesh R. Singh. It stars R. Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut and Jimmy Shergill in the lead roles. The story of the film has been written by Himanshu Sharma, music is directed by Krsna Solo and the lyrics penned by Rajshekhar. The film was released on 25 February 2011. Upon release, the film was commercially successful, particularly in Delhi, UP and Punjab. It was dubbed in German and released under the title Tanu Und Manu Trauen Sich. The film was remade in Telugu as Mr. Pellikoduku. A sequel, titled Tanu Weds Manu Returns was released on May 22, 2015. source.
Hawaa Hawaai is a 2014 Bollywood film directed by Amole Gupte. The film features Partho Gupte and Saqib Saleem. The film is produced by Fox Star Studios. Saqib Saleem played role of a skating coach in the film. The director Amol Gupte composed and sang one song for the movie. Rest of the songs were composed by Hitesh Sonik. Amol Gole again worked with Gupte and shot this movie. The film released in theatres on 9 May 2014 with good reviews. Hawaa Hawaai got mostly positive reviews from critics. Subhash K. Jha gave it 4.5 Stars and said that “Hawaa Hawaai is an extraordinary saga of ordinary lives, the kind we often pass by at traffic signals”. Joginder Tuteja called it a “Touching Tale” and rated it 3.5 stars. Noyon Jyoti Parasara rated it 4 out of 4 and commented “The film serves as a reminder and a lesson – in hope, in empathy and gratitude.”. source.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (English: Found a Treasure Called Love) is a 2015 Indian romantic drama film, written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya, produced by Rajshri Productions and distributed by Fox Star Studios. It stars Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles. This is the fourth collaboration between Barjatya and Khan after their previous films Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, and Hum Saath Saath Hain. The cinematography of the movie was done by V. Manikandan and was edited by Sanjay Sankla. The soundtrack was composed by Himesh Reshammiya, and the background music done by Sanjoy Chowdhury. The film was released in India and Pakistan on 12 November 2015. It emerged as a commercial success and ranks among the highest-grossing Bollywood films, with a gross of ₹400 crore (US$62 million) worldwide. The movie was reported to be inspired by the South Korean movie Masquerade  which itself was loosely based on the novel The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope. source.
